For the benefit of Special Olympics of Decatur County, 129 people walked into a lake while winter flurries fell Saturday, Feb. 16.
In conjunction with the Polar Plunge, 47 people took part in the 5k and 3k run/walk.
The proceeds received from the benefits will continue coming, said Special Olympics county coordinator John Bokelman. Because the fund-raising is not officially over, Bokelman was unable to provide a monetary figure during an interview Wednesday.
“We’re on track to have the same income as last year,” said Bokelman, who added that last year’s figure was approximately $1,500.
The Special Olympics, a worldwide organization, provides a number of athletic events of varying degrees of difficulty for special needs participants. Many events are no different than the sport as played by individuals without disabilities.
