Artists ready to 'Paint the Town' on Friday

GREENSBURG – The annual “Painting the Town” plein air paint out will be held in and around the historic courthouse square in downtown Greensburg Friday, Aug. 2.

Artists of all media, ages and ability are again invited to wander the square and nearby neighborhoods and gardens to create their impressions to share at the end of the day. The public is invited to watch the artists at work during the day and then gather with them at a tent on the square near the Friday afternoon Farmers’ Market at 3 p.m. to view and/or purchase the creations.

“We are excited to be hosting a paint-out again this year,” said Beth Smiley, chair of the event. “The response has been great. Many artists have pre-registered from as far away as Fort Wayne and Bedford. This is a great opportunity for local residents and visitors to interact with artists and to purchase original works with a local flavor.”

Registration for the event will be from 8 to 10 a.m. in a tent on the courthouse square. From 3 to 5 p.m., artists will gather at the registration tent to display and sell their works. Any artist regardless of age or ability, is welcome to participate in this free event.

Participants will receive a box lunch, a highlighted map, and chances for door prizes. Pre-registration is encouraged but not necessary. Artists are also invited to leave their works for display for three weeks after the paint out at the “Art on the Square” art gallery.

For more information about the event, or to volunteer during the paint out, contact the Arts & Cultural Council by phone at (812) 663-8600 or by e-mail at accdc03@etczone.com. Information and a registration form can also be found at www.artonthesquaregallery.com.

This event is sponsored by the Arts & Cultural Council of Decatur County and its artist group at Art on the Square Gallery, and Mainstreet Greensburg.
