YMCA, others partner for grant workshop

Greensburg — As some traditional funding sources for non-profits continue to dry-up, it becomes more and more important for organizations to use their time and fundraising capabilities strategically.

Equally, funding entities are refining the scopes of their applicable fundable projects, but also promoting new funding sources. All of these points led Bob Cupp, Decatur County YMCA Board of Directors and Diane Hart Dawson the YMCA CEO to assemble Deb Locke of the Decatur County Community Foundation, Cathy Wenning of Duke Energy, Joane Cunningham of the Decatur County United Fund, and Bryan Robbins of Main Street Greensburg to discuss options for better collaboration between the two resources.

The team decided to organize an event for non-profits and funders alike, so each can make important connections and learn about the current funding climate in Decatur County. This event, dubbed “Grant Opportunities: A Learning Luncheon” will take place at 8:30 a.m. April 30 at the Greensburg Learning Center.

“It’s a workshop to learn about grant funding opportunities in our area. Businesses, foundations and other entities will share information about funding opportunities for not for profit organizations, service clubs, etc. We hope this will enable the participants to better understand the requirements and types of funding that may be available” explained Hart-Dawson.

The event is receiving generous sponsorships from the Decatur County Community Foundation, Duke Energy, and Fifth-Third Bank. To further incentivize attendance, cash and other prizes will be given away to attending organizations: “You can win a $250 cash prize for your organization, thanks to our sponsors” shared Hart-Dawson.

Organizations interested are encouraged to contact Diane Hart Dawson at the YMCA (663-9622, dianehd@dcfymca.org) if they plan to attend. The event includes a morning snack and a light lunch.

Hart-Dawson hopes many will attend the event: “This is a great opportunity, and we hope people on both sides of the funding process can take advantage. There’s plenty to learn, and the more you know can only help your mission.”
