Developmental Services Inc. (DSI) holds a summer gala every year as their chief fundraiser, helping them provide vital services to local children and adults with special needs.
The annual summer gala dinner and auctions will take place on Friday, June 28, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Greensburg's Knights of Columbus.
Tickets are available for $25 and can be purchased at the DSI office on Michigan Avenue or online at www.dsiservices.org. Table sponsorship is available at a cost of $200, which includes eight tickets to the event.
The evening will start with a cocktail and social hour from 6 to 7 p.m., in conjunction with a silent auction from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The meal itself will be served at 7 p.m. and will be provided by Izzy’s Catering. The gala dinner will consist of a pork chop, roasted red potatoes, glazed carrots, bread, and homemade cheese cake. Following the meal, a live auction will take place at 8:30 p.m.
DSI’s program manager for supported living, Shelly Weber, said they have been overwhelmed with donations for both auctions from local businesses and individuals. Among the things to be sold in the silent auctions, participants can expect to see gift cards to local eateries, car wash packages, tickets to Crackers Comedy Club, pottery, and tickets to the Columbus kidscommons, among many other things.
The live auction has a number of excellent items up for sale as well, including a $1600 one week vacation, an autographed Ryan Newman shirt, several overnight hotel stays, as well as packages at casinos and from a few racing companies and teams. There will be numerous other items up for sale and all proceeds will be used to help provide service and support to individuals with disabilities.
Weber said state and federal funding has suffered heavy cuts in recent years and they are now receiving much less monetary aid to assist with the programs and services DSI provides. The coordinators at DSI were left with no choice but to find another way to help provide services for staffing, programs, classes, supplies, activities, and games. “Basically, the places we fall short now that state doesn’t offer as much funding,” Weber added.
Tickets for the annual fundraiser have been selling quickly and anyone interested in attending the DSI summer gala is urged to purchase their tickets as soon as possible. “Donations are still coming in and people really want to help,” Weber said. “It’s going to be a fantastic year.”
