Annual Polar Plunge and climb quickly approaching

Greensburg — Special Olympics of Indiana will be holding its sixth annual Polar Plunge fundraiser at 2 p.m. Feb. 16.

Registration begins 11:30 a.m. at the Versailles State Park on the boat ramp.

According to Decatur County Special Olympics coordinator, John Bokelman, participants are required to donate $75 in pledges.

All proceeds will go to the Special Olympics of Decatur County.

Prizes will be given to those who reach milestones in their fund raising, and Polar Plunge participants who raise $75 will receive a t-shirt.

There will be heated changing tents available for participants to warm themselves after taking the chilly dive.

There will also be a 5k run and 3k walk that has a minimum $35 entry, with registration from 10 to 10:45 a.m. The races will begin at 11 a.m.

According to Special Olympics co-chair, Greg Townsend, the races are divided into age categories (14 and under; 15 to 24; 25 to 34; 35 to 44; 45 to 54; 55 and over), and each category will receive first, second, and third place prizes for the race.

The first 100 registrants will receive a t-shirt.
