What is Smugmug?

GREENSBURG – In recent months, many Daily News articles have featured a line at the end inviting readers to visit a website called Smugmug to view more photos, but many readers have been wondering what is Smugmug?

Smugmug is the new online photo gallery the Daily News uses because the number of photos that can accompany articles is limited and reporters usually take far more pictures than can be used for any one article. By linking news stories with Smugmug galleries, the Daily News is able to allow readers to view all the pictures from events, perhaps catching a glimpse of someone they know.

The Daily News will utilize Smugmug as a way for readers to have greater access to photos taken by reporters. For example, during the Tree City Fall Festival, Daily News reporters took hundreds of photos and during the Decatur County 4-H Fair and animal shows, thousands. While only a handful of those photos made it into the print version of the newspaper, many important moments were captured on film. The Daily News believes its readers would like to see those moments.

Anyone can view the photos on Smugmug free of charge, but for a fee, any photo can be ordered for either digital download or print and canvas is an option for some photos as well. In addition, photos may be ordered on stickers, mugs, clothing and a variety of other merchandise. Prices vary depending on the size and material of the item ordered.

In addition to all the photos posted by the Daily News staff, there is a section for readers to upload their own photos. Reader submitted photos are not available for purchase and may only be viewed online. The Daily News invites all readers to submit photos from their own special events. Whether it be a birthday, anniversary, holiday or just a happy moment captured on film, the Daily News wants to see it.
