---- — WESTPORT – With the end of “Black Friday” shopping deals finally reached and the annual consumption of Thanksgiving leftovers in full swing, the small community of Westport can now turn its attention toward the Christmas season.

The annual Santa’s Village, sponsored by the Westport Area Business Association (WABA), begins at 5 p.m. Saturday on Main Street amid a tent of vendors and a festive atmosphere aimed at recreating “an old fashioned Christmas,” according to the WABA’s Sandra Cunningham-Billieu.

Cunningham-Billeu told the Daily News visitors to the Santa Village will find much to like, not the least of which is a visit from everyone’s favorite “Jolly Old Elf” from the North Pole, Santa Claus himself.

The jovial bearded fellow is expected to make his entrance at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Santa will greet children and listen to their Christmas wishes. Kids and their families may then indulge themselves in free hot cocoa and cookies while they shop with local vendors.

Just as synonymous with the season as Santa and his eight tiny reindeer is the venerable Christmas tree. The town’s tree will be lit in a special ceremony at 6 p.m., according to information provided to the Daily News by Cunningham-Billieu.

Children may also participate in the annual coloring contest, which will see prizes awarded for the top entries.

Visitors may take in the festivities and shop until 8 p.m.
