Greensburg Daily News

Greensburg — North Decatur High School senior Kaleb Kramer has been named the recipient of a full-tuition, four-year scholarship as the Decatur County Community Foundation (DCCF) 2013 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar, reported DCCF Executive Director Deb Locke.

Kramer will receive full tuition to the Indiana college of his choice, along with $900 yearly stipends for required books and equipment.

The Lilly Scholar is the son of Donald and Carla Kramer of Greensburg. Kramer is the president of the North Decatur FFA group, cross country team captain, track and field team captain, student council class representative, science academic team captain, and National Honor Society vice president, along with many additional community and school activities. Kaleb will be attending The University of Southern Indiana in the fall and plans to become a physician.

Four semi-finalists will receive $5,000 scholarships awarded from the Decatur County Community Foundation’s unrestricted fund. The four award recipient are: Greensburg High School student Macy Ballard, daughter of Richard and Angela Ballard; North Decatur High School student Kelsey Johnson, daughter of Scott and Laura Johnson; South Decatur High School student Morgan Tomson, daughter of Jimmy and Beth Tomson; and North Decatur High School student Veronica Yager, daughter of Donald and Kimberly Yager.

The five finalists were selected from 42 applications submitted by accredited high school seniors who live in Decatur County. The students went through a rigorous process of writing essays on a topic selected by the DCCF volunteer scholarship committee. Once the essays were reviewed by a separate volunteer committee, the five finalists were chosen. The finalists also went through a presentation and interview process. The recipient was chosen after an accumulation of scores was completed.
