DSI job fair to offer more than 100 jobs

GREENSBURG – More than 100 jobs, from manufacturing to clerical and food service, will be available at a job fair at City Hall in early February.

Employers that have agreed to participate include Ivy Tech, Iron Skillet and Developmental Services Inc., which is organizing the event, which will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4.

Christopher Ramey, DSI’s employment specialist for Decatur County, said the agency launched the event because local job fairs generally offer only industrial job opportunities, but the area also needs to provide jobs for people working in food service or as janitors or cashiers.

DSI, a nonprofit agency, helps people with disabilities, and Ramey said the job fair aims to give people a broader range of potential jobs.

Ramey said the job fair is open to anyone in the community and he hopes that by the time the event occurs, more employers will have signed up to participate. Interested employers can contact Ramey at or 812-614-3036. Employers who have agreed to participate so far include Ivy Tech, Spartan Staffing and Iron Skillet.

Applicants should wear the appropriate attire for the job for which they are applying, Ramey said, and they should bring resumes and a list of references with their contact information.

Ramey said that his role at DSI involves finding work for people with disabilities, and that sometimes employers need to make only small adjustments to accommodate people with disabilities. In some cases, he said, someone with diabetes, for example, may need a short break to check blood sugar levels. Ramey said he makes sure that in potential employment situations for people with disabilities, both the employee and the employer have a positive outcome.

DSI is hosting the job fair for the first time. City Hall is located at 314 W. Washington St.
