The Greensburg Community Bread of Life will be holding their 11th annual turkey noodle dinner fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7.
Advance tickets are available at the Greensburg-Decatur County Public Library, and the Bread of Life for $8 each. Tickets purchased at the door will cost $10.
A thousand meals are planned to be prepared, said Bread of Life director, Melissa Foist. The meal will contain turkey and noodles, green beans, a roll and apple pie.
Foist said traditionally approximately $7,000 is raised, and this year Bread of Life hopes for $8,000.
The money will go to Bread of Life’s yearly expenses, “We’re just trying to be self-sufficient,” said Foist. “The community support is just outstanding.”
The event received sponsorship from ETC, Greensburg Soy Processors, First Baptist Church Believers Class, Walmart, and Defender Direct.
The dinner will be provided in a drive-thru style. Signs will be set up to direct hungry drivers to a line of cars. At the door of Bread of Life, dinner-goers will present their meal ticket, and the food will be handed through the car window.
The Greensburg Community Bread of Life provides free meals to people in need, three days a week, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Anywhere from 250 to 600 people are served weekly, said Foist.
A mere 15 to 20 volunteers keep the Bread of Life running, of which the organization is always in need.
“We never turn anyone away,” said Foist, who added that anyone interested in volunteering can call 812-662-4887, and ask for Kim.
The Bread of Life is located at 700 Randall St.
