Greensburg — Mishpachah, Inc., a Mason, Ohio-based teenage-drama and musical group, will perform the musical “Dead Serious...About Life” (DSAL) beginning at 6 p.m., Nov. 3, and at 3 p.m., Nov. 4, at Greensburg Community High School (GCHS).

According to event materials, the group, which is made up of high school students, is renowned for its “unique choreography” and “stylish performances.” “DSAL” has been staged since 1989, with more than 100,000 kids in almost 20 states seeing the production.

“DSAL” deals with teen-relevant issues such as alcohol, drugs and religion, and doesn’t shy away from controversial topics such as sex, suicide and abortion.

The group holds a question-and-answer session after each show to council audience members and discuss the topics addressed. Through those sessions, the event materials state, the group has ministered to thousands of young people. In that way, the show changes both audience-member lives and the lives of its performers.

Pastor Rob Edwards of Buena Missionary Baptist Church, Laurel, is media coordinator for the event. He recommended the show for kids in seventh grade and older.

“If parents come along, it’s okay to bring younger kids,” he added. “Kids certainly need someone to discuss this with after watching it.”

“This production,” he continued, “shows kids what the world has to offer you, and it’s not exactly pretty. It also shows alternatives to a destructive, worldly lifestyle, including Jesus Christ.”

Edwards further characterized the show as too edgy to stage in a church.

“This show involves beer bottles and bongs,” he said. “As a pastor, there’s no way I’d want that in the house of God.”

Edwards invited every local teen to attend a “DSAL” performance.

Advance tickets are $8, with tickets at the door costing $9. To order advance tickets or for more information about the show, call 800-459-7268. Attendees are advised to purchase tickets before the performance.
