Greensburg — The Decatur County Extension Homemakers just wanted to have fun Saturday, and they invited area women to come join them.

“Women Just Want to Have Fun Day” started at 9 a.m. with various crafts to show attendees, including corn-husk dolls and centerpieces, knit scarfs, and cupcake decorating. Rita Hellmich and Alice Woodhull modeled the “latest” in kitchen apron design (consisting of a bra and skirt combination, and boxer shorts made into an apron), and "Mrs. Varvel," played by Marilyn Jackson, performed a stand-up routine about the pains of getting older and being a wife and mother.

“Who would have thought ‘til death do you part’ would take such a long time?” Mrs. Varvel joked during her routine.

Lunch consisted of lasagna, bread sticks, salad, ice cream, cookies and a drink for $6.

Rita Hellmich, chairwoman, said the turnout of approximately 70 people was one of the largest "Women Just Want to Have Fun Day" had ever had.

Everyone was having a good time, Hellmich said, and she was glad to give the opportunity for people to relax.

The Indiana Extension Homemakers Association (IEHA) is always looking for new members, Hellmich said.

The IEHA is celebrating their 100th anniversary in 2012.

Additionally, the Decatur County Historical Society has a display dedicated to the IEHA. Next year, in June 2013, there will be a celebration at the Purdue campus (West Lafayette), and a quilt showing all of Indiana’s 92 counties will be raffled.

To ask about tickets for the raffle, call Rita Hellmich at 812-663-6285, The Decatur County Historical Society is located at 222 North Franklin Street.
