Greensburg — In the regularly scheduled Board of Zoning Appeals and Plan Commission meeting, Menards shared plans to expand to Greensburg.

Represented by Tom O'Neil, Menards explained the layout for the potential future building, lumberyard and parking lot which would be located near Walmart. The plans included widening Freeland Road to three lanes. Menards plans to return in November to apply for parking and sign variances, and a rezoning request.

Hitachi Powdered Metal is planning on doubling the size of their building, and received preliminary approval as long as Hitachi does not lay any impervious surfaces before their final plans are approved. The plan commission wants to see water drainage studies and plans before any further action is taken to expand the building.

The Plan Commission moved further on definitions in the sign ordinance. The definition of lit signs were discussion as well as sign sizes. The Commission also decided that an appendix would be added to the ordinance which would show the maximum sign size required to be effective in a moving vehicle based on speed limits.

“They’re hoping to have something to present to the City Council after next month’s meeting,” said Gary Murray, city engineer.

The Plan Commission also received an update on the city’s unsafe buildings - the property owners are following up on the necessary repairs, according to Murray.
