The $25,000 prize from BMO Harris Bank’s “new home” contest went to Greensburg resident Scott Adkins and his family.
Adkins has worked on-again, off-again as a dump-truck driver for approximately three years in order to support a family of five.
The shaky job made for a shaky foundation from which to purchase a house.
After taxes, there are no actual stipulations for the use of the BMO Harris prize money, Adkins admitted, but the family is still looking for a home.
Adkins told the Daily News he would rather the money he's paying in rent be used to purchase a home.
“We have this opportunity,” said Adkins, “We might as well get ourselves in a home that we can buy.”
He is not sure which community the home will be in, but said his family is very excited.
“I’d like to say thank you to everyone, family and friends, for their support.” said Adkins, “I’m just very excited. It opened up a lot of possibilities and opportunities for my family and I. Without everyone voting it wouldn’t have happened.”
He added that he didn’t know how many people actually voted because BMO Harris Bank didn't release the results. “Enough people voted, I guess,” he said with a laugh.
