GHS class of ’63 meeting for week-long reunion

GREENSBURG – The Greensburg High School class of 1963 will be returning to the Tree City to commemorate their 50th reunion with a week-long celebration.

Reunion organizers figured that most, if not all, of their fellow classmates will have retired by now and would be available for the extended festivities. Organizers said they planned the longer, more in-depth milestone celebration to make the trip back to Greensburg for the golden reunion more worthwhile.

The 137 graduates of the class of ‘63 have met every five years for a reunion since graduation. At last count, 26 members of the original class had passed. At least 71 of those remaining have already registered. Those attending the reunion started arriving in Greensburg on Sunday, which was reserved as a travel day for attendees. Labor Day and the day after were left open for guests to occupy themselves.

September 4 will begin with lunch at High Point Orchard. Guests are asked to arrive at 11:30 a.m. with lunch to be served at noon. The afternoon and evening are scheduled to be open, with a trip to an antique mall, shopping or the Indiana Grand Casino in Shelbyville listed as possibilities. September 5 will be spent with a picnic at the park and bowling.

Friday, September 6, is filled with a full day of fun for reunion guests.

A golf outing at the Greensburg County Club is set to begin at 9 a.m. Lunch will follow at the Gilded Lily; guests are asked to arrive at 11:30 a.m. with lunch served at noon. A tour of the Decatur County Historical Museum will take place between 1 and 2:30 p.m. followed by a walking tour of the courthouse square from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Attendees will participate in a meet and greet at Buffalo Wings & Rings at 5 p.m. and Greg Westrup will offer plane rides at the Greensburg Airport from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Those interested in plane rides are asked to contact Greg to make plans and pick a time. The evening will conclude with a social for alumni and their spouses at Carriage on the Square beginning at 7:30 p.m.
