Traffic Stop Nets Large Quantity of Marijuana

Dearborn County — Thursday around 2 p.m., Senior Trooper Jimmy Wells was patrolling I-74 in Dearborn County when he stopped a 2010 Chevrolet Impala for speeding near the 164 mile marker, eastbound.

During the stop, Trooper Wells became suspicious of possible criminal activity and requested a K-9 unit. Officer Jacob Jump and his K-9 partner, Newby, from the Lawrenceburg Police Department, responded.

Newby alerted on the vehicle, and a subsequent search resulted in the discovery of approximately 50 pounds of marijuana. The driver, Ashley L. Love, 32, of Indianapolis, was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center. He faces a charge of Dealing in over ten pounds of marijuana, a class “C” felony.

According to Trooper Wells, the marijuana, valued at approximately $50,000, was being transported from Indianapolis to Cincinnati. Ashley is male.
