GREENSBURG – The Daily News was recognized with the 2013 John McCauley Community Awareness Award at a banquet in Seymour Thursday night.
The award is evaluated by representatives from Developmental Services, Inc. (DSI), and honors individuals, groups and publications that strive to positively change the public perception of individuals with disabilities.
“We are honored and humbled to be chosen to receive this award,” Daily News editor Brent Brown said Friday. “As a staff, we are committed to telling the stories of the many outstanding individuals in the Decatur County community. Having the honor of meeting so many wonderful people associated with Decatur Industries, DSI and the ARC of Decatur County has been a great experience for all of us, and we are grateful for those opportunities.”
The award was based on stories concerning individuals living with disabilities in the Decatur County community throughout the last year. Those stories were written by Daily News staff writers Rob Cox and Amanda Browning, former Daily News staff writer Tess Rowing, and news editor Brent Brown.
The Daily News was previously honored with the John McCauley Community Awareness award in 2008 and 2011.
