White headlines Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner

GREENSBURG – On Monday evening, the Decatur County Central Committee hosted its annual Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner at McCamment’s Cattlemens Restaurant.

New County Chairman Hank Martin opened up the reception by honoring former County Chairman Al Moore with an award honoring his service to the party as a central committee member for many years. Martin went on to announce the new slate of officers including himself as County Chair; Mimi Pruett as Vice-Chair; Vanessa Pinson as Secretary and Ryan Maddux as treasurer.

After dinner, Patricia Yount, 6th district chair, kicked off the after-dinner speeches stressing the important of state elections and their trickle down consequences to the local level.

Kent Yeager, aide to U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly, talked of the Senator’s passion in listening to Hoosiers from all over the state. Kip Tew (speaking on behalf of John Gregg) spoke passionately about the protection of public education and the need for job creation, “we need a governor who is going to focus on jobs . . . and also a governor who will “quit dismantling public education.”

Keynote Speaker, Marion County Clerk Beth White, spoke about her love of election work. She went on to stress how those rights are under attack and that the most important thing in her estimation is protecting the right to vote for every Hoosier. While White remained coy about her future political ambitions, there’s no doubt that a continuation of public service after her current term is in her future.
