South Decatur’s Junior High football team traveled to Edinburgh Thursday night and cruised to a 54-18 win.
The Cougars rolled up 420 yards on the ground and 120 yards through the air.
“We had an outstanding effort from the O-line that let us do pretty much whatever we wanted to do offensively,” said coach Troy Meadows. Logan Shafer led the way, gaining 218 yards, followed by Kordell Meadows with 105. Devon Martin added 97 yards on the night and had a very good game on defense as well. Meadows went 5 for 6 passing for 120 yards, Shafer also led the receiving with 115 yards - 70 of that coming on a 70-yard bomb down the right side just before the third quarter ended.
The defense tightened up in the second half and only gave up six points, Draven Lee and Logan Shafer both recorded interceptions. Shafer returned his for a touchdown. Devon Martin recovered a fumble and the defensive line had great pressure on the Lancers all night, forcing a lot of havoc in the backfield.
South’s record improves to 3-2 as they prepare to play North next week for a Civil War battle of the ball.
