Shelbyville — The Indiana Farm Bureau is sponsoring “Growing with Family - Passing the Farm On” 1:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 7 at the Indiana Downs.

Jolene Brown, author of “Sometimes You Need More Than a 2 x 4!,” professional speaker and business consultant, will be presenting a three-hour lecture and workshop entitled “The Top Ten Mistakes That Break Up a Family Business!”

Brown will be running a succession planning program, and how family relationships can work in a business. The program will relate to farmers, because much of the time a farm is a family farm.

Following Brown’s presentation will be a dinner from 5 to 6 p.m., after which a second keynote speaker, Ken Roney, advanced sales manager, will speak on tax issues while transferring business to the next generation.

Roney will discuss tools available to people who are transferring a business to children or grandchildren, and also complications and issues which may arise when doing so.
