Night Extension Homemakers Club

Seven members of the Night Extension Homemakers Club met at the Greensburg home of Janet Hagerty on Wednesday, January 3 for our first meeting of 2007. President Catherine Mauer opened the meeting with the creed and the pledge to the American flag, followed by Janet H. with devotions. Co-hostess Luella Lecher read the thought of the month.

Roll call was answered by telling what have you learned from your club, and these included friendship , socializing, lessons, fun times, laughter, and actually being invited to join the club. Secretary and treasurer reports were given by Janet H. and Liz Hally respectively. Liz reported on making the donation to Santa's Cause of Decatur County in December.

For Cultural Arts, Janet Bedel told the story behind "The Twelve Days of Christmas," and that each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality.

As of now, no one from our club will be going to Jennings County later this month to get the leader lessons. Also, Craft Demonstration Day will not be held in Decatur County this year, but at the Jennings County Library in North Vernon on Saturday and is being combined with Foods Day with pizza being the special item for this. The local extension office can be called for more information on this.

Bernardine Mack gave the lesson entitled Garage Sale Treasures, and this could be an great way to get rid of clutter, items not needed now, and make extra cash at the same time -- and remember that a sale brings out ALL kinds of people. We toasted the new year with sparkling white grape juice... in very special glasses, too. Card bingo was conducted by Luella, and all won prizes. Janet B. received the door prize, and Luella won the mystery box. Delicious refreshments were served, we socialized for awhile, and then returned home a little earlier than usual.

We will meet at the home of Bessie Ploeger for our next meeting on Feb. 7, with Catherine as co-hostess.

Modern Trends Home Extension Club

The Modern Trends Home Extension Club met on Tuesday at the home of Marlene Wolter at 7 p.m. with eight members present.

President Ann Stagge called the meeting to order and members said the Homemakers Creed followed with the Pledge to the Flag. Marlene read a poem about "A Crabby Old Man”. Lucille Wenning read the Thought: Working with your hand gives you a chance not only to create or restore an object, but also to restore and create yourself.

The members then sang Auld Lang Syne.
