Burney S. Jackson, 86 of Carmel, Indiana passed away on May 6, 2008.
He was born on November 12, 1921 in Burney, Indiana, the son of Burney and Zelpha (Galbraith) Jackson; the brother of Robert Casper Jackson, Edwin Andrew Jackson, Glenna Joan Miers, each of whom preceded him in death. Sister, Betty Lee White of Muncie, IN, Marilyn Jean (Stan) Corey of Arroyo, CA survive him in death.
He graduated from high school in Burney continuing his formal education with a Bachelors Degree at Indiana State University and a Masters Degree at Indiana University. He was a career educator serving in the roles of teaching and administrator. He was devoted to this family, friends, those in need, and his church. He was active in the choir at the Carmel United Methodist Church. He enjoyed being a volunteer at Ronald McDonald House and a member of the Carmel Lions Club. He served in World War II as a pilot with the 450th Bombardment Group of the US Army Aircorps. He received The Purple Heart. He was married for over 60 years to Katherine Jackson. Their children, Patricia (Larry) Colando, Irvine, CA, Karen (Richard) Gould, Carmel, Mark (Rachel) Jackson of Westfield and Linda Stephens, Germantown, Tenn.; grandchildren, Chris and Erica Gould, Kelsey and Colton Stephens and Alex Jackson. Visitation will be held Friday, May 9 at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center in Carmel from 4 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 10 at Carmel Untied Methodist Church with calling one hour prior to the time of services. Committal will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
Memorial contributions may be made to Burney S. Jackson Memorial Fund in care of the Carmel United Methodist Church, 621 Rangline Road, Carmel, IN 46032. The family has designated that contributions will be used for the music ministry.
