Melvin B. Dearinger, 92, of Shelbyville, passed away Dec. 17, 2013.
Born July 2, 1921, in St. Paul, he was the son of Wayland and Mildred (Miller) Dearinger.
Melvin was a 1939 graduate of St. Paul High School. He served in the US Navy in the South Pacific during World War II.
He married Ada Lou (Pike) Dearinger June 14, 1947, and she survives.
He worked as a carpenter and cabinet maker for many years until his retirement in 1983. Melvin was a member of St. Paul Christian Church DOC. He was a member of Waldron Lodge #217 F&AM and Shelbyville American Legion Post #70. Melvin was also a former member of the St. Paul town board and the St. Paul Volunteer Fire Department.
He loved riding his motorcycle and scooter. He enjoyed woodworking furniture-making, and he loved his favorite dog, Toby.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Holly M. Clapp; daughter-in-law Pam Dearinger; brother Donald Dearinger; grandchildren, Jason Clapp, Christin Ashcraft and Ian Ashcraft; and one great-grandchild, Jacob Clapp. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Robin B. Dearinger.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at Glenn E. George Funeral Home in St. Paul.
A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Funeral services begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at St. Paul Christian Church, Pastor Jessica Singleton officiating.
Burial follows in Paul Hill Cemetery. A military graveside service will be conducted by a local veteran’s organization.
Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice or St. Paul Christian Church DOC in care of the funeral home.
