Ronald L. Gholson, Sr., 70

Ronald L. Gholson, Sr., 70, North Vernon, passed away Thursday, Jan. 28 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility at Columbus.

Born Jan. 12, 1940 in Green County to Albert & Ruth (Hasler) Gholson, he was raised in Jennings County and was a former Westport resident.

He graduated from North Vernon High School in 1958. He retired from UPS in 1994 after 35 years of service where he was Union Steward for 35 years. He was co-owner of Jenco Medical and Mobility. He was the Sandcreek Township Trustee. A position he held for the past 16 years.

For many years, he was the Chairman of Jennings County Trustees’ Group which oversees the Coordinating Council and Homeless shelter. He also served as Democratic Precinct Committeeman for Sandcreek Township.

He was on the Board of Directors of Decatur County REMC since 1997 and was currently the Secretary of Board and assistant Treasurer. He also served as a Reserve Deputy for the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department. He was also on Board of Directors of the Ohio Valley Opportunities in Madison. For 45 years he sang with Gospel Echoes Quartet, traveling the Tri State area sharing the Gospel message. Member of the First Baptist Church at North Vernon where, he had served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Song Leader and Choir member.

He also had attended the Bethel Baptist Church at North Vernon and had been song leader, Sunday School Teacher and Deacon at the Fredonia Community Church.

He served on the advisory board for the building construction program at Jennings County Community Schools. Ron was a man who loved God and loved people. He served 9 years with the Indiana National Guard.

He enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, singing with the quartet and spending time with his family and friends.

Ron married Lois Ann Krom at Fredonia Community Church on May 14, 1961.

He is survived by Lois Ann Gholson, North Vernon; two daughters, Rhonda Ann (David) Ochs, Greenwood, Rochelle Lee (Jon) Douglas, North Vernon; one son, Ronald L. (Pam) Gholson, Jr., North Vernon; two sisters, Martha (Bill) Padgett, Westport and Linda (Larry) Cunningham, Westport; three brothers, Gary K. (Mary) Gholson, North Vernon, James W. Gholson, Scipio, Dennis R. (Teresa) Gholson, North Vernon; seven grandchildren, Ashley Gholson, North Vernon, Devin Gholson, North Vernon, Katie Ochs, Greenwood, Allie Ochs, Greenwood, Maddie Ochs, Greenwood, Keaton Douglas, North Vernon, Kameron Douglas, North Vernon.
