Charles F. Shields, 72, of Greensburg, passed away Friday, Feb. 7, 2014 at his residence.
He was born June 4, 1941 in Connersville, the son of Willard C. and Ethelada (Gray) Shields.
He was raised in Rush County in the Mauzy area and had been a Decatur County resident since 1965. He graduated from New Salem High School in 1959 and Purdue University in 1964 with a degree in Animal Science and Agronomy.
Charles was employed by Funks G. Hybrids, McCurdy Seeds and Golden Harvest Seeds. He was a member of the Indiana Massey Harris Association, Rushville Steam Engines, Power of the Past and Fly Wheelers Club of Florida. He enjoyed going to antique tractor shows and farm shows.
He married Barbara Wilson in Rush County Oct. 24, 1959 and she survives.
Other survivors include his mother, Ethelada Shields of Greensburg; daughter, Beth (Jerry) Mayhugh of Greensburg; son, Scott (Laura) Shields of Greensburg; brother, Ronald L. (Jonita) Shields of Rushville; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home. Following Charles’ wishes, he will be cremated and will be buried at a later date.
