Edgar “Eddie” Vanderbur, 84 July 21, 1929 – Feb. 17, 2014

Edgar “Eddie” Vanderbur, 84, of Greensburg, went to be with Jesus Monday, Feb. 17, 2014.

Eddie was born July 21, 1929 in Decatur County, the son of Nolan and Minnie Pearl (McKelvey) Vanderbur.

He was a lifelong resident of Decatur County and a 1948 graduate of Sandcreek High School. He owned and operated Vanderbur Excavating business for several years and attended Rodney Wesleyan Church.

He was a veteran having served with the US Army for three years during the Korean Conflict and part of that time he served with the military police. Eddie enjoyed drinking coffee and visiting with people.

He married Alma Bundren June 11, 1955 in Shelbyville and she survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Teresa (Sam Campbell) Schutte; his son, Bruce Vanderbur; his grandchildren, Jeremy Schutte, Shasta (Chad) Shiner, Craig (Charlene) Schutte, Grace and Olivia Vanderbur; his great-grandchild, Trevor Howard; his sisters, Marjorie Moore and Blanche “Peachie” Wells; and sister-in-law, Doris Vanderbur.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Ruth Irene Kelly and Leota Mae Moore; his brothers, Nolan “Pete” Vanderbur, Jr., Floyd Ernest Vanderbur, Earl W. Vanderbur and Dennis Loren Vanderbur.

There will be a time of visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home. Funeral services begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at the funeral home, Rev. Michael D. Miller officiating.

Burial follows at Burks Chapel Cemetery with military graveside rites.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the American Heart Association or the donor’s choice.
