Sister Mary Martin McHugh, 88, of the Sisters of St. Francis, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at the convent.
Born Feb. 8, 1925 in Cincinnati, she was the daughter of Mary (Martin) and James McHugh.
She entered the convent Sept. 11, 1949, and made her final vows Aug. 12, 1955. Sr. Mary Martin was an elementary school teacher for 24 years at Little Flower School in Indianapolis, St. Vincent’s Orphanage in Vincennes, Our Lady of Mercy in Dayton, Sacred Heart in Fairfield, Ohio, and St. Clements in Cincinnati.
In 1979, she studied Hospital Ministry and served as Chaplain at Bethesda and Good Samaritan Hospitals in Cincinnati for 22 years, after which she returned to the Motherhouse serving as Chaplain of St. Claire Hall before retiring in 2004.
Sr. Mary Martin is survived by her sisters, Catherine Denier, Ann Parker, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James McHugh.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at the Motherhouse in Oldenburg.
Funeral services follow at 1 p.m., Rev. Humbert Moster, O.F.M., officiating. Burial will follow in the convent cemetery.
