Greensburg — Mertie Pearl Saylor, 84, of Greensburg, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2013, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home. She was born February 20, 1929 in Benton County to John and Amy (Matthews) Tobias.
She was a Westport resident since 1940. She graduated from South Decatur High School in 1971 and attended Indiana Central College. She retired from Muscatatuck State Hospital after 27 years of service. She was a member of the Westport Christian Church. She married George W. Saylor in Petersburg, Indiana on November 17, 1945, and he preceded her in death on May 13, 2005.
She is survived by a son, Roy William (Jeanne) Saylor of Westport; sisters, Clara Faye Evans of Greensburg, Marilyn Gee of Bedford, Annie Marie Lucas of Columbus, Maxine Alice Hanners of Mitchell, Beulah Mae White of Seymour, Linda Ault of Campellsburg; brothers, Edward Lee, Paul Ray, Norman Eugene Tobias all of Alabama; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Randall Lee and Charles Duane Saylor; brothers, Cecil Wayne, George, Joseph, and Johnnie Tobias, and two brothers in infancy; and her sister, Mary Lue Gobin.
The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Aerie Cemetery.
