Margaret J. Pruett, 87, of Highland, Ill., passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 at Liberty Village of Maryville in Maryville, Ill.
She was born March 7, 1926 in Paoli, Ind., the daughter of Clyde L. and Faye A. (Mattox) Kirby.
She married Cecil Laverne Pruett Sept. 27, 1955 in Orange County, Ind., and he preceded her in death Dec. 17, 2001.
Following their marriage, Cecil and Margaret lived in Texas, Kansas, Kentucky, and for more than 20 years they operated Pruett's Refrigeration Service in Greensburg.
They had retired and lived in Las Vegas for about three years. They moved to the Metro East area in 1989, then to Highland, Ill. in 1993.
Margaret was a homemaker. In her younger years she enjoyed watching TV, crocheting, snowmobiling and travel.
She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Margaret is survived by her sons Michael C. (Patricia) Pruett of Wentzville, Mo., James E. (Mimi) Pruett of Greensburg, and John W. (Laura) Pruett of Highland, Ill.; grandchildren Joseph M. Pruett of Aspen, Colo., Cynthia M. (Nicholas) Armstrong of Greenwood, Lisa M. (Aaron) O'Banion of St. Joseph, Ill., Bradley A. Pruett of Grand Junction, Colo., James M. "Jay" Pruett of Greensburg, and one great-grandchild, Lucas J. Armstrong of Greenwood.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Frances Condra.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home, Highland, Ill., and from 8 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, also at the funeral home.
Rev. Dr. Beverly Wilkes Null will officiate the ceremony. Pastor Mike Allen will provide the eulogy.
Burial will follow in Highland City Cemetery, Highland, Ill.
