Greensburg — Melvin Dowell, 65, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, at Indianapolis University Hospital.

Melvin was born Aug. 21, 1947, in Salem, the son of Craig and Sarah (Barnard) Dowell. He worked as an engineer for Detroit Steel in Morristown and was a member of the Morristown American Legion.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Vernon and Marvin Dowell; and first wife: Janice (Walls) Dowell, Aug. 1996, whom he married Oct. 1965. He was also preceded in death by his second wife Jean (Sparrow) Dowell, September 2011, whom he married September 1997.

Survivors include three daughters: Kim Cregar of Indianapolis, Terri Dowell of Indianapolis, and Michelle (Dennis) Moffett of Greensburg; two sisters: Minnie Watts of Crawfordsville, and Lyewellyn Emberton of Danville; six grandchildren; and two Great grandsons.

Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Jan. 15, at Glenn E. George and Son Funeral Home, Shelbyville.

Burial services will be held at 10 a.m., Jan. 16, at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.
