David Lawrence Johnston, 76

Greensburg — David Lawrence Johnston, 76, Westport, passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 at Morning Breeze Nursing Home.

He was born on Jan. 23, 1937 in Dearborn County, the son of Robert P. and Lillian M. (Ormes) Johnston.

He was born and raised in Dearborn County and moved to Decatur County in 1951. He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1955.

He had worked as a carpenter with Hargitt Construction until 1972, when he started farming in Jackson Township. He attended the Waynesburg Christian Church and was a member of the Sandusky United Methodist Church, Westport Masonic Lodge # 52 F. & A.M. and served on the Board of Directors for the Westport Area Community Building for many years.

He enjoyed playing cards and visiting with family and neighbors. Dave was very involved in the rebuilding of the Waynesburg Christian Church after the fire. He was a friend and helper to his family and neighbors.

He married Janice Kay Brewsaugh in Sandusky July 20, 1958, and she survives along with his daughters, Nancy K. Oleksy of Westport and Sandra E. (Gary) Profitt of Greensburg; his son, Allen D. (Laura) Johnston of Hope; his 5 grandchildren and his one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Leonard Johnston.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport, Rev. David Burnett officiating.

Burial will follow at the Union Presbyterian Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Waynesburg Christian Church, Sandusky United Methodist Church, or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
