Charles Thomas "Tom" Link, 93 April 30, 1917 - Oct. 3, 2013

Charles Thomas “Tom” Link, 93, of Seminole, Fla., passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013 in Bay Pines, Fla.

Born April 30, 1917 in Greensburg, he was the son of Charles and Mary (Tumilty) Link.

Tom was a high school baseball athlete as well as at the University of Illinois.

He was in building construction and was a real estate broker in Florida.

Tom was a 30-plus year member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Seminole. He served as lead usher, mass server, sacristan, and Eucharistic minister at the church.

He was a Cursillo Lay Carmelite, and a Holy Name Society Member.

He received a life membership in the Knights of Columbus Council #1042, Greensburg, and was a life member in the Archbishop of Joseph P. Hurley Assembly, Largo as a Faithful Navigator.

During World War II, Tom served as a US Army Staff Sergeant. He spent 43 months in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, receiving two Battle Stars, the Bronze Star, the American Defense Medal, and Commendations. He was credited with bringing down four enemy planes, and was at the same base of operations as was O’Hare, who was the first Ace with five planes shot down.

Tom was a member of the American Legion Post 273.

He is survived by a nephew, Michael Link, Indianapolis; nieces, Marcia O’Connor, Sarasota, Fla., Sandra Link, Cincinnati, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Urban Link; one sister, Margy Gilliband.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg with Msgr. Harold Knueven officiating.

Entombment will be held in the South Park Mausoleum in Greensburg.

Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home has been entrusted with the local arrangements.
