---- — James William Dent, Indianapolis, went home to be with his Eternal Father June 25, 2013.
Jim was born Derby Eve May 5, 1939 to Georgia K Sheetz Dent & Harry (Heggy) Andrew Dent in Louisville, Ky.
His parents preceded him in death as well as his step-father Walter J. Schott of Greensburg.
He is survived by loving wife, Connie and children Andy (Denise) Dent and Allison (Danny Angelico) Dent; and daughters gifted to him by his wife, Debi (Adam) Smaltz and Melanie (Phillip) Cantwell. He also has 10 grandchildren he adored: Olivia, Alexis and Tanner Dent; Sarah Angelico; Amber, Fred, Shea, Cameron & Parker Smaltz; and Corey Colavito.
Jim was raised in Anderson, and was a 1957 graduate of Middletown High School.
He was member of the US Air Force from 1958-1962. He attended Ball State for a short time, but decided to devote his life to learning the grocery business. He was a self-taught business man and accountant in Greensburg where he worked for and eventually owned Ranch Supermarket.
He was member of Greensburg Kiwanis Club and worked diligently with the Greensburg Cheer Fund. In Indianapolis he worked at Hubler Dodge & Pearson Ford, in the office.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. July 21, in the chapel at Southport Presbyterian Church, 7525 McFarland Boulevard, Indianapolis, with visitation at 2 p.m. until service time.
