Estol M. Werner, 80, of Milhousen, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 at his home.
He was born near Cross Plains on March 3, 1932, the son of Herman and Leola Smith Werner.
He married Maxine Knowlton at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Olean Feb. 1, 1964, and she preceded him in death June 13, 2009.
Survivors include one sister: Esther (Raymond) Geisler of Versailles, two sisters-in-law: Marie Werner of Greenfield and Katie Werner of Versailles, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Herman Jr. (Duke) and Norman.
Estol was an Army veteran of the Korean War where he served at the rank of Sergeant with the third battalion of the 17th Infantry.
He received the Korean Service Ribbon with one bronze star, the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
He was a former employee of Bruns-Gutzwiller Construction in Batesville where he worked as a bricklayer.
Estol was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Olean, the Versailles American Legion and Laborer’s International Union Local 741.
Funeral services will begin at noon Saturday, Nov. 17 at Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles, Pastor Dennis Zimmerman officiating.
Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery at Olean with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday.
