Paul John Richards, 85, of Greensburg, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at Heritage House of Greensburg.
Born May 4, 1927 in Batesville, he was the son of Lorry and Loretta (Bosse) Richards.
After high school, Paul joined the U.S. Navy and served in World War II.
He married Evelyn Narwold Feb. 4, 1950 at St. John’s Huntersville Church in Batesville, where he had been a dedicated member all his life.
Paul gave a lot of time and many gifts to the church such as the Bibles in the pews and furniture in the office.
Paul retired from Cummins Engine in Columbus as an industrial engineer. He was a member of Batesville Lodge 668 F&AM, the Tree City Squares and the Brunch Bunch in Indianapolis.
Paul and Evelyn loved to travel around in their Winnebago, going camping and dancing (mostly square dancing). They did almost everything together, from shopping to church, but dancing is what they loved most. They danced in all but two states, showing off their skills, along with Russia and Poland during a time when it was not easy to travel to those countries.
Paul is survived by his wife, Evelyn, two sons: Jerel “J.R.” (Denise) Richards, of Greensburg, and Troy Richards, of Columbus; six grandchildren: Tonia Richards, Tawana Brewer, Scott and Jerel Jr. Richards, Preston and Tiffany Richards, along with 11 great-grandchildren and one sister, Margaret Riggs, of Wesley Chapel, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald Richards.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 at Meyers Funeral Home, with Masonic Services at 8 p.m.
Funeral services begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Huntersville. Burial follows in the church cemetery, with military funeral rites by the Batesville VFW and American Legion.
