---- — Benno L. Harpring, 81, of Rushville, passed away July 24, 2013
He was born Sept. 11, 1931 in Rush County, son of the late Benno J. and Rose M. (Naderman) Harpring.
He married Antoinette M. Hartman Aug. 24, 1955, and she survives.
His loving family includes three sons: Benno “Frank” (Karen Eder) Harpring, Mark G. (Karen Ellis) Harpring of Rushville, Steven T. (Lisa Thompson) Harpring of Morristown, and one daughter, Diane K. (Elbert) Gordon of Rushville; nine grandchildren, three great-grandsons; a brother, Norbert Harpring, and a sister, Helen Navarra also survive.
He was preceded in death by sisters Evelyn Heckmna, Alberta Harpring and Norma Streit.
Benno was a 1949 graduate of Rushville High School, playing on the high school football team. He was also a graduate of Purdue Agriculture Short Course in 1951.
He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. Benno was a lifelong member of St. Mary Church. He admired his wife of 57 years and truly enjoyed his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
Benno was a lifetime Rush County farmer who had a great interest in old farm equipment. He also loved popcorn, sweet corn and growing corn.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Rev. Jeremy Gries officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 26 at Todd Funeral Centre and Crematory, with rosary prayed at 3:45 p.m.
Memorials may be given to St. Mary Church Renovation Fund or to St. Mary Catholic School.
