Norma Smith Bruner, 85, of Greensburg, passed away at her home with her family by her side on June 15, 2014. She was born on Aug. 23, 1928, in Decatur County; the daughter of George and Ida (Flint) Chadwell.
She graduated Sandusky High School in 1946. She married Harold E. Smith Feb. 29, 1948, and he preceded her in death, Aug. 22, 1984. She later married Rollin Bruner and he preceded her in death.
Norma worked in the Washington Township and Decatur County Assessor’s offices for 25 years. She enjoyed working as a foster grandparent at Greensburg Elementary for 8 years in kindergarten classrooms.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Greensburg. She enjoyed playing in card clubs with her friends and made quilts for her great-grandchildren. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her four sons, Edwin Smith of Indianapolis, Jeffrey (Kitty) Smith, Vincent (Mary) Smith, both of Greensburg, and Steven (Michelle) Smith of Richmond; brothers, Leroy Chadwell of Kentucky and George (Betty) Chadwell of Sandusky; sister, Lucille Donica of Shelbyville; 9 grandchildren, Vanessa (Doug) Westerfeld, Jill (Greg) Bedel, Keith Jones, Christie (Jude) Shell, David (Jennifer) Smith, Michael (Jennie) Smith, Amanda (Tom) Blanke, Stephanie (Chris) Cahill, and Max Smith; and 15 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Ann Hall.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, at Gilliland Howe Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 19, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery, with Rev. Danny Wolford officiating.
