Archie Lester Ruble, 86, of New Point, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014, at Aspen Place Health Campus in Greensburg. The son of Joseph and Stella (Blair) Ruble was born on Feb. 2, 1928 in New Point.
Like many boys of that era, Archie lied about his age to enlist in the U.S. Navy and serve in WWII. After the war, Archie married Wanda May Pursley in Greensburg on June 30, 1951, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 30, 2013.
He worked at Union Furniture in Batesville for many years, retiring in 1991. He then went to work for New Point Products which he enjoyed very much, retiring from there in 2012.
Archie was a New Point man through and through. He coached little league baseball, umpired baseball, was a volunteer fireman at the New Point Fire Dept. for many years, and built the backdrop of the nativity scene at New Point Christian Church, of which he was a member. Archie loved almost all sports, but was an avid Cincinnati Reds and I.U. fan. He was a very caring and kind person doing almost anything for almost anyone. He was well respected in his community and will be missed by his many friends and family very much.
Archie is survived by his sons, Thomas (Mary Beth) Ruble of Greensburg and Ernest (Ann) Ruble of Columbus; daughters, Rebecca (Randy) Schebler of Batesville, Stella (Ronald) Pyles of Sardinia, Sandra (Gary) Hamer of Greensburg and Nelrose (Michael) Price of Greensburg; along with his sister Nelrose Cook of Greensburg; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; sister, Vivian Allen-Folson; and brothers, John R., Jerry, Joseph Jr., James, Calvin and Lowell Ruble.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8. Funeral services begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 9th, all at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville, with Rev. David Johnston officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will follow at the Rossburg Cemetery in New Point.
Memorials may be given in his memory to Our Hospice in care of the funeral home.
