Henrietta M. Stein, 93, of Oldenburg, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014, at her residence.
Born April 28, 1921, in Franklin County, she is the daughter of Elizabeth (Nunlist) and Jacob Werner. She married Joseph Stein Jr. Nov. 20, 1941, at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg, and he preceded her in death April 24, 2004.
A homemaker, Henrietta was also a charter member of the New Horizons Service Guild and a member of Holy Family Church.
Her family referred to their mom as “the perfect farmer’s wife.” She loved her cows and could watch them on the hill from the house. Henrietta spent years helping her children with their 4-H activities, from speeches to canning contests to animals.
Describing her mother as “a great cook,” Henrietta’s daughter said “nobody could compete with Mom’s roast beef.” She also fondly remembered Henrietta’s homemade rolls and donuts.
Henrietta was well organized and kept excellent records which in turn kept everything running smoothly. Back in the day, she made most of her children’s clothes, enjoyed gardening, read quite a bit and would occasionally work crossword puzzles. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
