Anna Marie Schwering, 82, of Greensburg, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Aspen Place in Greensburg.
She was born Feb. 17, 1931 in Indianapolis, the daughter of Blaine A. and Theresa J. (Brady) Thompson.
She was a 1949 graduate of Clarksburg High School and received her nursing degree from St. John’s School of Nursing in 1952. She worked at Decatur County Memorial Hospital for two and a half years before raising a family, then worked at Lincoln Nursing Home and the Odd Fellows Home for 10 years.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Lawrence Auxiliary, and enjoyed sewing, and ceramics.
She married Donald A. Schwering Jan. 6, 1955 in Greensburg, and he preceded her in death Jan. 14, 2010.
She is survived by five daughters: Cynthia (Richard) Nelson-Schlarb of Greensburg; Carolyn (Greg) Roszell of Westport; Jennifer (Jeff) Friend of Westport; Monica (Jan) Gunter of Batesville; and Rebecca (Brian) Wagenblast of Ontario, Canada; four sons: John (Vicki) Schwering of Greensburg; Joseph (Karen) Schwering of Osgood; Benjamin and Robert Schwering, both of Greensburg.
Thirty-five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters: Kimberly Schwering, and Catherine Sherman; three brothers: Arthur, Harold, and Bernard Thompson; one sister, Mary Pelkey.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 18, at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home with a Rosary being recited at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday March 19, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund or to St. Mary’s School. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.gilliland-howe.com.
