Roy Wayne “RW” Johnson, 82

Greensburg — Roy Wayne “RW” Johnson, 82, of Greensburg, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013 in Anderson.

He was born July 12, 1930 in Westport, the son of Albert Russell and Velma Mary (Allee) Johnson.

Wayne had been a resident of Decatur County for most of his life. He married Mary Ellen (Smith) Johnson July 22, 1950, and she preceded him in death Nov. 9, 2005. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1954 and was based on U.S.S. Coral Sea #49.

He started working with Decatur County Co-Op in December 1961 and became general manager in April 1983.

He retired July 31, 1993. He had been a director on HUD Board for the city of Greensburg and the Greensburg Area Chamber of Commerce.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Westport, Eastern Star, and Farm Bureau Inc. Wayne was a member of the Sardinia Baptist church serving as superintendent, later transferring his membership to First Baptist Church of Greensburg where he served as a Youth Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of the Board of Deacons and Board of Trustees.

The most important things to Wayne were his faith in God, his family, neighbors and friends. He also loved basketball, fishing, and camping and at age 75 he went water skiing.

He is survived by one daughter: Jaclyn Ellen (Jacques) Cushman of Punta Gorda, Fla.; one Son: Dean Wayne (Karen) Johnson of Anderson; five grandchildren: Kyle Alan (Lindsay) Dodd, Jessica Ellen (Adam) Burton, Doni Nicole (Travis) Scroggin, Russell Wayne Johnson, and Daniel Preston (Rachel) Johnson; and his great-grandchildren: Katherine and Anna Dodd. He was preceded in death by his parents, his Wwfe Mary Ellen and two brothers Marlin Dale and Jerry Lee Johnson.

Friends may call at Gilliland-Howe Thursday, May 16, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 3:45 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 17, at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow in Union Presbyterian Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon’s or Hospice. “Thank You to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for such a wonderful and blessed earthly life.”
