Rowland Gerald Yeend, 82

Greensburg — Rowland Gerald Yeend, 82, Rushville, passed away Nov. 9, 2012. He was born Feb. 18, 1930, in Walla Walla, Wash., to Rowland Averil Yeend and Geraldine (McEvoy) Davis. He married Carole Houston Yeend March 4, 1994.

Also surviving is son William Dale (Dale Marie) Yeend of Santa Clara, Calif.; daughters Kim (Ron) Jones of Chambersburg, Pa.; and Karen (Jim) McReynolds of Greensburg; stepsons Steve (Susan) Houston and Marc Houston of Rushville; grandchildren Jennifer Harter, Brian (Laurer) McReynolds, Justin McReynolds, Amber, Amanda and Jordan Jones and Grant Houston; and five Great grandchildren.

A Korean War veteran, Yeend served in the United States Navy from 1947 to 1956, where he gained his knowledge of electronics. Upon leaving the Service, he was employed by EG & G, a prime contractor to the Atomic Energy Commission at the Nevada Test Site where he tested atomic weaponry.

After moving to Indiana in 1968, he was employed in the Shelbyville plant of IPC, retiring after 29 years as a senior mechanical design engineer for the same company, now known as Freudenberg-NOK. His love of mechanical design continued into his retirement years, and he spent a great deal of time at the computer. Rowland was also an avid woodworker and turned out many fine pieces of furniture.

He was a member of Las Vegas Lodge No. 32, F & A.M. and a former member of the Indianapolis Scottish Rite and the Indianapolis Murat Shrine.

Please visit www.mostermortuary.com to sign the guest book. It’s also where we invite friends and family to post their memories and share photos. Also posted are some stories Rowland has written about his life’s journey.

In keeping with the simplicity he so appreciated in life, Rowland requested cremation, with the remains committed to the sea from a U.S. Naval vessel. A ceremony will be performed by the commander while the ship is deployed. The family will then be notified of the date, time, longitude and latitude once the committed service is complete. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Decatur County Hospice and the Rush Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Services entrusted to Moster Mortuary, Rushville.
