Marie C. Meyer, 88

March 8, 1926 - May 2, 2014

Marie C. Meyer, 88, St. Mary’s, died Friday, May 2, 2014, at St. Andrews Health Campus.

Born March 8, 1926, in Oldenburg, she was the daughter of Mary (Werner) and Frank Hartman. She married Victor J. Meyer Nov. 12, 1947, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Oldenburg, and he preceded her in death April 14, 2013.

She was a member of St. Mary’s of the Rock Catholic Church, St. Mary’s, and its ladies society and for many years was the caretaker of the grotto there, along with her husband Vic.

Marie loved to cook and bake for her family of 13 children. Her family enjoyed her homemade bread on a daily basis. She took great delight in serving some family favorites: Apple dumplings with her special sauce added on top and also “beefy bunwiches,” which would often be made for their birthdays upon request. Marie’s true passion was tending to her garden and flowers. She grew more than 15 varieties of roses and put out a large garden that helped feed her entire family. She would can, freeze and make preserves from the fruits and vegetables for her family to enjoy all year long. Marie loved to bake and serve a variety of desserts, especially all types of pies. Some of her other hobbies were crocheting, playing scrabble and solo, working crossword puzzles and watching songbirds, which she could identify by the sounds that they made. She and Vic loved to travel and would often attend the area church picnics. Her family was the most important thing in the world to her, especially her children and grandchildren. Marie’s family described her as a caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and as being the “perfect homemaker,” where everyone felt at home and loved in her presence.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Grace and Arthur Schneider, Batesville, Yvonne and Ronald Schneider, Sunman, Mary Louise Meyer and Richard Cartwright, Oldenburg, Eileen and Tim Duff, Hamilton, Ohio, Carolyn and Dale Sorber, Rushville, and Susan and Brad Everage, Simpsonville, Kentucky; sons and daughters-in-law Eugene and Karen Meyer, Brookville, Dennis and Marlene Meyer, Greensburg, and Gary and Sue Meyer, Roy and Berna Meyer, Joe and April Meyer, John and Linda Meyer and Jerome and Nancy Meyer, Batesville; sisters Antoinette Hartman, Rushville, Geraldine Nobbe, Brookville, and Edith Eickhorst, Kansas City, Missouri; brother Irvin Hartman, Lawrenceburg; 28 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
