Richard W. Schoettmer, 78, Greensburg, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born, July 22, 1935, in Millhousen, he was the son of Herman J. and Sarah M. (Wesseler) Schoettmer.
Richard was a farmhand for 19 years and then went to work at the Decatur County Highway Department for 10 years.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
He was married to Leona F. Matern on Nov. 26, 1959, and she survives.
He is also survived by three sons, Wayne Schoettmer, David Schoettmer, and Randy (Cindy Stevens) Schoettmer, all of Greensburg; three daughters, Janet Powell, Greensburg, Sandra (Fred) Kendall, Waldron, Sharon (Mike) Woodhull, Greensburg; two brothers, Ralph Schoettmer, Ronald Schoettmer; seven sisters, Margaret Greiwe, Mary Ann Sullivan, Kathleen Berkemeier, Ruth Steinkamp, Virginia Wamsley, Lucille Case, Agnes Wagner; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Albert Schoettmer.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. A public rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg, with Rev. Bill Ehalt officiating.
Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Millhousen.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Church Building Fund or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
