Antoinette Schwering, 80

Greensburg — Antoinette Schwering, 80, of St. Paul, died Feb. 28, 2013, at Hickory Creek, Greensburg.

Antoinette was born in Harrison, Ohio, July 8, 1932, to Edward and Clara (Harpring) Buening.

She was married Aug. 28, 1952, to Daniel Schwering; he preceded her in death in 1987.

Antoinette graduated from Millhousen Grade School and Oldenburg Academy. She earned a B.S. from Marion College and finished an MAE (Master of Art & Education) from Ball State University.

She was a life-long educator, who worked as an elementary school teacher at both St. Mary’s of Greensburg and Hartford City Elementary. After that, she served as principal at several schools, including: St. Joseph School, Shelbyville; St. Mary’s of Ardeen (Washington State); and St. Ann and Our Lady of Lourdes, both in Indianapolis.

She also managed Greensburg Memorial Pool two years and coached the Greensburg YMCA Tiger Sharks Swim Team five seasons.

She was a member of St. Vincent Catholic Church and of St. Paul Senior Citizens.

Antoinette enjoyed traveling and visited Canada, the Netherlands, Europe, and all 50 U.S. states in her lifetime. She also enjoyed knitting and quilting, and crafts. She loved sports and was an avid Purdue University fan.

Survivors include eight children: Jane Morris, Cynthia Wilson (Jim) Brattain, Bruce (Angie) Schwering, and Maricarol (Tim) Cox, all of St. Paul, Gregory (Jackie) Schwering, Napoleon, Sheryl (Daryle) Boyd, Franklin, Guy (Maria) Schwering, Osgood, Regina (Rod) Eaton, Clarkston, Mich.; three brothers: Stephen Buening of Florida, Gerald Buening, Columbia, Mo., and Edward Buening, Wheaton, Ill; twenty grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Antoinette was preceded in death by one sister: Ann Schwering; and one grandson: Jason Schwering.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m., March 3, at Glenn E. George Funeral Home, St. Paul. A Rosary will be held just prior to visitation, at 3:45 p.m., also at the funeral home.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., March 4, at St. Vincent Catholic Church, Shelbyville, with Rev. Paul Landwerlen officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Senior Center in care of the funeral home.
