---- — Cecil Gorbett, 97, of Hattiesburg, Miss., a former Greensburg resident, passed away August 16, 2013 in Mississippi.

Born May 13, 1916 in Decatur County, he was the son of Marion and Florence (Young) Gorbett.

He worked for Mitchell Veneer for 19 years and retired in 1983 from Federal Mogul. He was a member of the Mount Aerie Baptist Church and was co-treasurer for Mt. Aerie Baptist Church and the Southeastern Baptist Youth Camp for 14 years. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1934.

Cecil married Margaret Hockersmith in Greensburg on August 30, 1941; she preceded him in death on April 5, 2004.

He is survived by sons, Charles & Dallas Gorbett, both of Hattiesburg, Miss.; sister Elizabeth “Betty” Letzker of Greensburg; granddaughters, Sabrina (Ryan) Davis of Cleveland, Ohio, Meri (James) Drago of Hattiesburg, Miss.; great-grandchildren, Marie, Mathew, & Jacqueline Drago of Hattiesburg, Miss., & William Davis of Cleveland, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers; Russell, Herschel, Richard & Donald Gorbett & one sister Mary Harmon.

The funeral will begin Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. Steve Malone officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Aerie Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 12 p.m. until service time.
