Quentin E. “Shorty” Wells, 85

Greensburg — Quentin E. “Shorty” Wells, 85, of Greensburg, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Morning Breeze in Greensburg.

He was born in Decatur County April 11, 1928, the son of the late Irvin and Bertie Myrtle (Pitts) Wells.

Quentin started working for the railroad as a young man during the World War II era when most of the working age men had gone to war.

He served with the Army at the end of World War II.  After the war, he came home and joined his brothers in the Wells Brothers Trio circus act, performing on the parallel bars and doing acrobatics.  While with the circus they had play dates in 48 states, several South American countries and through the Caribbean Islands. Returning to Greensburg in the early 1950’s, he worked several places but spent most of his working life with GM and retired from the Chevrolet Center in Winter Haven, Fla. in 1993.

In his first marriage he was blessed with his four children, Pamela D. (Wells) McClure, Gary W. Wells, Michael (Robin) Wells, and Keith A. (Debra) Wells all of Greensburg.

With his current wife Norma Wells, he became the loving step-father to her four children: Nanci Brogan, Greenfield, Keith E. Brogan, Jacksonville, Fla., Kevin E. (Kathleen) Brogan, Greenfield, and Kenneth A. (Jodi) Brogan, San Angelo, Texas.

In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Greensburg Country Club and truly enjoyed playing golf. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #129 of Greensburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Herman, Oakley, Irvin Hartzel, Clevie, Oren “Bill”, and Delmar; sister, Selma (Wells) Menefee; daughter, Pamela (Wells) McClure; step-son, Keith E. Brogan.

He is survived by his wife, three sons, step-daughter, two step-sons, five grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, three sisters-in-law.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.

Funeral services begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, Rev. Danny Wolford officiating.

Interment will be at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
