Maxine Gordon Oldham, 84

Greensburg — Maxine Gordon Oldham, 84, of Greenwood, formerly of Rush County, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in Morristown.

She was born May 19, 1928 in Fayette County to Fred and Dora (Waggoner) Maple.

She was a 1946 graduate of Rushville High School. Maxine married Francis Gordon Aug. 17, 1947.

Francis preceded her in death April 24, 1983. She married Maurice Oldham Jan. 27, 1985 and he survives.

Maxine was a beautiful soloist. Her love of singing and playing music led her to being one of the 12 Girls singing group and a member of the school band while attending high school.

She was also a soloist for the dance band 10 Key Notes in the mid 40’s. She was a longtime member of the Plum Creek Christian Church where she sang in the choir and served as church organist for many years. She was a member of the Rushville Music Study Club and played the piano for more than 25 years for Christ 3C’s.

Maxine lived on a farm in Rush County until she married Maurice and moved to the Greenwood area in 1985. She became involved in the Southport Lions Club and attended the Edgewood United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She also sang with the dance band The Serenades.

In addition to her husband, Maurice, of Greenwood, Maxine is survived by daughters Carolyn Keith and Kathryn (Darrell) Newkirk, sons Philip (Michele) Gordon and  Elbert (Diane) Gordon, all of Rush County; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren (with number 20 due any day), two-step-great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; stepsons, David Oldham of Virginia, Mark Oldham of Oregon, Rick (Nancy) Oldham of Indianapolis and Doug Oldham of Bright; stepdaughter Christine (Greg) Hood of Georgia; 13 step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Francis Gordon; a grandson, Michael Keith, brothers, Ben and Marion Maple and sisters Norma Snyder and Helen Wilson.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at Plum Creek Christian Church with Steve Abernathy and Ray Sweet presiding.

Friends are welcome to visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 17 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville.  

Burial will be in the Center Cemetery in Rush County.  

Memorial contributions may be made to the Plum Creek Christian Church of Rushville, Michael Keith Scholarship Fund % Rush County Community Foundation, Rush Memorial Hospital Foundation and Edgewood United Methodist Church East Epler Ave in Indianapolis.
