Milton J. Dierckman, 84

Greensburg — Milton J. Dierckman, 84, of Batesville, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Born May 22, 1928 in Morris, Ind., he is the son of Ruth (nee: Kirschner) and Edward Dierckman. He married Marie Schneider Aug. 20, 1952 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Morris. He was a lifelong farmer and worked for the Batesville Casket Company as a mechanic for 40 years before retiring in 1993. He was a US Army veteran during the Korean War and a member of St. Louis Church and Oldenburg Knights of St. John.

Milton enjoyed farming and was a mechanic by trade. He could fix anything, and when a part could not be found he would either weld it or make a new one with his metal lathes whether it was at work or on the farm. He also enjoyed working with small motors in his shop. His family lovingly referred to him as the “Junk Collector and Recycler” for having accumulated and collected many items over the years. In his spare time, Milton enjoyed watching the Lawrence Welk Show, Bonanza, Matlock and 60 Minutes and could often be found reading the newspaper, farm papers and farm magazines. According to his family, Milton had a “sweet tooth.” He loved ice cream, pies, cookies and hard candies, just to name a few. Milton loved his 1947 Army Jeep and could often be found taking rides with his family; he even taught some of his kids how to drive. Milton’s true passion was his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was truly a good husband and father.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; daughters and son-in-law, Ginny Lows, Joyce and Bob Kessens, both of Batesville; sons and daughter-in-laws, Ron and Marlene Dierckman of Fort Wayne, Jerry and Sandy Dierckman of Greensburg, Ed and Diane Dierckman of Batesville; sister, Cleora (Bob) Kuntz of Brookville; brothers, Joseph, Elmer and Ralph Dierckman, all of Batesville; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ricky and sisters, Roberta Brunsman and Dolores Reer.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18 at the Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19 at St. Louis Church in Batesville with Rev. Randy Summers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and by Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271.

The family requests memorials to the St. Louis School or the charity of the donor’s choice.
