Clifton W. Blake, 96 July 31, 1917 - Nov. 18, 2013

Clifton W. Blake, 96, went home to be with the Lord Nov. 18, 2013.

He had been a resident of Heritage House Nursing Facility in Greensburg for the past year. Clifton was born July 31, 1917 in Owsley County, Ky.

He lived most of his life in Franklin County. He was the last surviving sibling of 10 children born to James T. and Mary Shepherd Blake.

He served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1943, during World War II. He married Nola Riley Dec. 25, 1943.

They were blessed with seven children: Rena (Donald, deceased) Dillman, Roger (Betty) Blake, Ronald (Pat) Blake, Gregory (Lou Ann) Blake, Robert (Sherry) Blake and Randel (Carol) Blake. They have 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

Clifton was a tool maker and machinist, as well as a farmer. After retirement, he went to work at the gristmill in Metamora as a miller.

At six years of age while visiting the mill with his father, he decided he would work there one day. He spent many happy years at the mill with his co-workers, and he especially enjoyed the daily visitors and school groups.

He loved people, always willing to lend a helping hand where needed. He enjoyed music, playing his guitar and singing, woodworking, gardening, golf, fishing, and hunting. Mostly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Nola, Feb. 27, 1996; son Darrell, on Oct. 19, 1958, a stillborn daughter in 1958, granddaughter, Jennifer Blake Goddard and grandson, Clifton Mathew Blake; his parents, brothers Roy, Ralph, Laurin, Clyde; sisters Craten, Ruby, Ora, Nancy, and a brother Earl who died in infancy.

Calling will be from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at Cook Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville, Rev. Tony Carson and Rev. Eric Hopkins officiating.

Memorials may be made to Hospice South Central Indiana. Personal condolences can be left for the family at
